If you decide that Invisalign is right for you, you'll be on the road to a straighter smile. Here, our BC orthodontists share what you can expect from your Invisalign journey from start to finish.
Planning Your Trip: The Consultation
You will begin your journey by scheduling a consultation with your orthodontist to see if Invisalign is right for you. At the consultation your orthodontist will complete a thorough assessment of your teeth and gums. They will also take digital x-rays and impressions of your teeth.
Once all of your information is collected, your orthodontist will review your diagnosis and discuss treatment options with you.
Making a Reservation: The Decision
If you decide that Invisalign is right for you, your orthodontist will create an animation to show what your teeth look like at the beginning of your journey and how you can expect them to look by the end.
If you approve the animation, your orthodontist will send your digital impressions to Align Technology so they can create your custom orthodontic aligners, which may take up to four weeks.
Hitting the Road: The Aligners
Once your custom Invisalign aligners are ready, your orthodontist will ensure that they fit properly before you take them home.
Although the aligners are removable, you must wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day. This means you should only remove them for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing.
You will switch to a new aligner in your series every two weeks until treatment is complete, and can expect brief appointments with your orthodontist every four to six weeks to monitor your progress and make sure treatment is going as planned.
Reaching Your Destination: The Results
Provided you have followed your orthodontist's recommendations during treatment, you will be able to enjoy a straighter smile at the end of your Invisalign journey.
Your orthodontist may recommend a retainer to help you maintain your new smile, and to ensure your teeth do not shift from their new positions.
