Taking Good Pictures with Braces

Getting a good picture of yourself can be pretty difficult (we've all been there!), and doing it with braces can be even more so. The following tip and ideas will help you to take a better picture during your braces treatment.

Try a less noticeable treatment option.

Choose braces that don't stand out as much as regular braces is a good choice for anyone who doesn't want their braces to be the first thing people look at in pictures.

One very good option for low-profile teeth straightening is Invisalign. This series of clear plastic aligners are essentially invisible when worn. But even if Invisalign is not the right choice for you, there are several other understated or "hidden" braces options that won’t be as obvious in pictures.

Lingual braces are another popular choice. This style of braces is worn behind the teeth (facing into the mouth), so they won’t show at all when you’re smiling for a picture.

In-Ovation Self-Ligating braces have smaller-looking brackets than standard metal braces, because they don't require ties or elastics. This means that they won't stand out as much when you smile for a picture than traditional braces would.

The can be said for for ‘translucent’ ceramic braces. The tooth-coloured ceramic material that these brackets are made of blend right in with your teeth, making your braces look less noticeable.

Go with colour!

If you're willing to fully embrace the 'braces look', make a statement with your braces by adding some colour!

The elastic bands that go on braces come in a rainbow of colours, allowing you to turn your braces into an accessory and express yourself with them! You can pick a colour (or multiple colours) that looks nice with your eyes or your skin tone, or choose your school or team colours. The sky's the limit!

Choosing a darker colour will make your teeth look whiter and brighter in contrast. Try to avoid bright white, as this will make your teeth look a bit darker and more yellow in comparison, and avoid browns and certain greens, as these can look like food stuck in your teeth.

Good Oral Hygiene

Good oral hygiene is probably the most important way to taking a good picture with braces. Keep your teeth clean and healthy by brushing and flossing often, and cleaning your braces themselves just as often. Having clean and healthy teeth that you care for every day will help you avoid having pictures taken with food stuck in your braces, or with discoloured teeth due to lack of properly cleaning.

Just Smile!

We understand that having braces can take some getting used to, but try not to feel shy or embarrassed about your braces. Own them and don’t hold back on smiling in pictures. At the end of the day, a big, happy, confident smile is an attractive smile, braces or not! If it helps, practice smiling at yourself in the mirror, to get used to how your smile looks with braces in it.

And keep reminding yourself: you look great with your braces!
